Stores that price match will reduce their price of a product to match the lower advertised price from a competitor. Although it is one of the most effective ways to save money when grocery shopping, only select grocery stores offer price matching. You can use Flipp to easily compare the price of a specific product in different stores!
Below, we have compiled a list of all major Canadian grocery stores that price match, along with examples to show you exactly how the price matching process works. Let’s dive right in.
Grocery Stores that Price Match
1. No Frills
They have stores in all provinces except QC and NL.
Check out No Frills price match policy (aka “Won’t Be Beat”) applies “If a Major Supermarket Competitor in a store’s Geographic Trade Area, advertises a lower price, for an identical or comparable item that we carry in store, show us the competitor’s advertisement (digital or print flyer) only during the effective date of the competitor’s advertising and we will match that lower price. Let’s see a real life example to price match at No Frills using Flipp!
Price Matching Example #1 – No Frills:
I know I’m going to shop at No Frills because it’s my nearest local store that offers price matching. Hot dog weiners are on my grocery shopping list this week. I open my Flipp app and search for my favorite brand, “Schneiders.”
I filter my results to include only select stores, Food Basics, Walmart, and Metro – I obtained the list of stores that No Frills price matches from at my local No Frills and know that these are the included merchants.
Immediately I see that there are a few deals available, but this one from a local grocery store stands out: $2.88 each for Schneiders Red Hots Wieners, 375g package. Done. I clip it to my Flipp list and head to No Frills after planning the rest of my haul.
At No Frills I see this exact package of Scheiders Red Hots is selling for $6.49. I pick it up along with my other items, head to the checkout and inform the cashier that I’d like to price match. I show the cashier the $2.88 deal from the other store’s flyer and she verifies that it’s eligible for a price match. The price is adjusted to $2.88, and I’ve just saved myself $3.61 ($6.49 minus $2.88)!
It may not sound like much, but if you do this for several products at a time, the savings can really add up!
2. Real Canadian Superstore
They have stores in AB, BC, MB, ON, SK, YT.
Real Canadian Superstore’s price match policy is “show us a lower advertised price on an identical item and we will match it”. However, RCSS price match does not apply to ‘multi-buys’ (e.g. 2 for $4), ‘spend x get y free’, clearance, discounts obtained through loyalty programs, or offers related to third party operations (post office, gas bar, dry cleaners, etc.).
Here’s an example for price matching at Real Canadian Superstore!
Price Matching Example #2 – Real Canadian Superstore
Before or while you shop, you can double check if you can find a cheaper price at the grocery stores around you using Flipp. Here we are comparing International Delight French Vanilla coffee whitener to see if there are any cheaper options.
There happens to be a cheaper version of the very same product we are looking for, at another local grocery store. At Real Canadian Superstore, this whitener was going for $5.49, but this week it was on sale at another local grocery store for $3.99 so by price matching we can save $1.50.
To match the price match we will save the cheaper flyer clipping and show it to our cashier once we check out. You can do this for any product within the guidelines of the grocery store that price matches.
3. FreshCo
They have stores in AB, BC, MB, ON, and SK.
FreshCo’s price match policy or “Lowest Price Guarantee” is “if a supermarket competitor within your local store’s geographic trade area offers a lower price on any item that we carry in this store, we will sell you that item for 1¢ less than the competitor’s advertised price when you show us the competitor’s price in their current flyer (print or digital)”. Yet, each store can determine the supermarket competitor, geographic trade area and comparable item. Price matching does not apply to select items, check out FreshCo’s price match policy for more details.

Giant Tiger’s price match policy or Ad Match Guarantee is that they “will beat the advertised price of any competitor”. 6. Maxi
They have stores only in QC.
Maxi’s price match policy is if a major supermarket competitor located in Quebec offers a lower price on any item they carry, they will match it, as long as the competitor’s advertisement is during its effective date and the items are the same. Note that this guarantee does not apply to in-store third-party vendors, gift cards, liquor, tobacco, ‘spend x get x’ purchased items, ‘free’ promotions and discounts from loyalty customer programs of competitors.

Other Stores that Price Match
You may be wondering about other major grocery stores, such as Sobeys, Safeway and Metro. Unfortunately, these grocery stores do not price match. If you are interested in price matching make sure to check this blog post to find Canadian electronics and home improvement stores that do price match.
Price matching can be essential to saving. Flipp helps you price match by showing you products from different grocery stores so if you find a cheaper option you can price match at the grocery stores listed above.
Here is a testament from a Flipper in BC, Tammy. “The closest grocery store to me is IGA and as a busy mom finding the best deals is necessary to stay within our family budget. Price matching is a game changer for me! Not only does it help me save money and time but it also gives me a peace of mind knowing I am getting the best deals. Price matching makes sure that I never overpay while I get my weekly groceries. If I am shopping for snacks for the kids or my staple products I can always rely on price matching.”
