Top apps for saving money

Are you ready for the holiday shopping season? I know I am! I’m Nafisa Kassam, Flipp’s Chief Deals Officer, back on the blog today to share some more of my insider knowledge with you. I love the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and one of my favorite things to do is shop. Shopping during the holidays is always exciting, with storefronts decked out, and thousands of deals calling your name. I’ve definitely found myself in situations where I’ve gone overboard with the sales without realizing it, but that’s in the past.

I now use my phone to stay on track, on budget, and still save with the best deals. And today I’m sharing how. Here are my top four apps to help you cut down on spending, maximize your savings and save hundreds of dollars this shopping season.

  1. Your Personal Banking App

No, this isn’t a fancy app name — it’s actually really useful to have your day-to-day banking app on your phone! Not only can it alert you when fraudulent purchases are made, but it can also help you keep track of how much money you’re spending every day. Some banking apps have built-in budget trackers and can automatically categorize your spending, and others can send you notifications every time a card from that account is used. I know I have to start reigning in my spending when I see too many of those notifications!

  1. Mint

This one makes it to the top of all the best budgeting lists and for good reason! I’m a huge fan of budgeting apps that help me understand how to divide my paycheck into categories, and this is one of my faves! Mint is incredibly helpful for getting an overall view of your finances and understanding where your money is going and where it should be going. You can link your bank accounts to create a budget for yourself based on your past spending history. Definitely give this one a try if you don’t have a budget or are looking to manage your spending with one very simple app.

  1. Flipp

Do you get a rush of excitement the minute a great sale hits your inbox? Love hunting for deals and getting the absolute best price on an item you’ve had your eye on for a while? We may be a little biased, but there’s just no one out there doing it like Flipp! Flipp is the best app for tracking prices on anything from food to electronics across thousands of stores. My favorite feature is Watch List, which is great for keeping track of the latest deals for all the products you’re looking to grab. You can even set up alerts to get notified every time an awesome deal drops! So what are you waiting for? Download the app here.

  1. Trim

Have you negotiated any of your bills lately? If calling your provider and haggling for a fair price sounds like a daunting task, you should try Trim. All you have to do is enter some basic bill information, and then they’ll go ahead and negotiate your bills for you! It’s an incredible service that doesn’t take much to get started and can even dig up old recurring transactions like that old Audible subscription you thought you canceled! So go ahead, try it out and put that extra cash in savings or towards your holiday shopping.
