One of the first signs that fall is approaching is our cumulative tears when we realize that summer is coming to an end, but also, the reappearance of the long awaited pumpkin spice latte at your favorite coffee chains. With its sweet aroma and blend of spices that remind us of pumpkin pie, it’s hard to resist this serving of fall in a cup.
If you’re a PSL fanatic, you’re probably aware that sipping this drink all season long can put a dent in your budget. Today, one of our Flippers and coffee fanatic, Irene Sálamo, is sharing three pumpkin spice latte recipes that you can make at home, without breaking the bank. The best part? You don’t need any fancy equipment.
By using appliances that you already have in your kitchen and flavor-packed natural ingredients, we guarantee that you’ll fall in love with these recipes (see what we did there?).
Let’s get started!
Classic Pumpkin Spice Latte
Recreate this classic at home with all of the creaminess and flavor of your favorite coffee chain’s PSL using a pot, a whisk, and a blender.
Makes two servings
Ingredients:
- 1 cup 2% milk

- 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Directions:
- Brew one cup of your favorite coffee and set aside.
- In a small pot over medium heat, whisk together milk, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and brown sugar.
- Whisk constantly until the mixture starts slightly bubbling, around 5 minutes. Don’t let it boil.
- Pour the mixture into a blender and remove the top cap from the blender’s lid to let the hot steam out during blending.
- Blend until the mixture becomes frothy, around 1 minute.
- Pour the brewed coffee into two mugs, and then pour the milk mixture.
- Optional: top with whipped cream and sprinkle with more pumpkin pie spice.
- Enjoy!
Light Pumpkin Spice Latte
This version of pumpkin spice latte is completely plant-based, and just as delicious. By using almond milk and maple syrup instead of 2% milk and sugar, this alternative is great for those who want to cut back on calories.

- Pour the mixture into a blender and remove the top cap from the blender’s lid to let the hot steam out during blending.

Pumpkin Spice Tea Latte
If you’re not a coffee person, you can still be part of the pumpkin spice latte craze with this tea latte version. Irene used chai tea for this recipe because of its cinnamon flavor, which pairs well with the pumpkin pie spices, but any black tea will work just as well. This recipe uses raw honey instead of sugar to give it a floral sweetness.
Makes two servings
Ingredients:
- 1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 1 cup chai tea (or black tea of choice)
- 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons raw honey
- Whipped cream (optional)
Directions:
- Brew one cup of chai tea and set aside.
- In a small pot over medium heat, whisk together almond milk, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and raw honey.
- Pour the chai tea into two mugs, and then pour the milk mixture.
- Optional: Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with more pumpkin pie spice.
- Enjoy!
